South Hillsborough Community Center

This multi-use facility is prominently located within a new master-planned community in south Hillsborough County, Florida. Initially the functions would consist of a sales center for the community, a bicycle shop, and a small café. It is anticipated that within ten years the sales center (located on the first floor of the main building) would convert to meeting and activity space for the community’s residents.

The center is intended to be a distillation of the developer’s goals for the community. Accordingly the facility supports community interaction and a healthy life-style. Functioning as the trail-head for the southern leg of the Hillsborough County recreational trail, a spur of the trail literally rises up into the air, bridges over the street, and integrates into the second floor of the building. By doing so it creates a visual gateway into the community and ties the various parts of the program together. Indoor and outdoor spaces have been created for groups as small as a family enjoying a snack at the café to as large as 500 people gathering for an outdoor concert.
